Tool Capabilities & Limitations
Last updated: 2026-09-30
This page explains what each ColorVision tool accepts, returns, and does locally in the browser. It is intended to help users and browser agents choose the right tool and interpret its output safely.
Digit Plate Screen
- Input
- A readiness acknowledgement and a typed response for each of 24 original digit plates.
- Output
- A response-match percentage, an educational outcome label, and suggested next steps.
- Privacy
- Responses are processed in the browser. No account is required.
- Limitation
- It is an original screen-based activity, not a clinical Ishihara administration or diagnosis.
40-Cap Hue Arrangement Practice
- Input
- A drag, drop, or keyboard arrangement of 40 generated digital colour caps.
- Output
- An educational ordering-error score and visual error plot.
- Privacy
- The activity runs in the browser and does not require an account.
- Limitation
- Generated digital caps and a browser display do not reproduce a standardised clinical FM 100 Hue test.
15-Cap Hue Arrangement Screen
- Input
- A drag, drop, or keyboard arrangement of 15 generated digital colour discs.
- Output
- An arrangement score and an educational hue-sequence label.
- Privacy
- The activity runs in the browser and does not require an account.
- Limitation
- It is not a clinical Farnsworth Panel D-15 or a result for medical, licensing, or employment decisions.
Colour Blindness Simulator
- Input
- One image file up to 10 MB and a selected simulation mode: protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia, or achromatopsia.
- Output
- A browser-rendered simulated image that can be downloaded.
- Privacy
- Image processing happens locally in the browser; the image is not uploaded to a server.
- Limitation
- The simulation is an approximation based on colour-transformation matrices, not a representation of every individual’s perception.
Colour Contrast Checker
- Input
- Foreground and background hexadecimal colours.
- Output
- A WCAG contrast ratio, AA/AAA checks for text sizes, and simulated colour previews.
- Privacy
- Calculations happen locally in the browser; no account or upload is required.
- Limitation
- The tool evaluates the supplied colour pair and simulations; accessibility also depends on context, typography, and non-colour cues.
Clinical and safety boundary
None of these tools diagnoses colour vision deficiency or produces a certificate. For a new visual change, a concerning result, or a decision that depends on colour vision, consult a qualified eye-care professional. See the Test Methodology and medical disclaimer for more detail.
Symbol Contrast Screen
- Input
- One selected symbol or “Nothing” for each of eight original SVG items.
- Output
- Exact-match counts for four red-green-oriented and four blue-yellow-oriented items.
- Privacy
- Answers remain in the browser and are cleared when the page is reloaded.
- Limitation
- No clinical sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic threshold, or subtype classification has been established.
Kids’ Colour Shape Activity
- Input
- A finger, mouse, or stylus trace over six original shape outlines.
- Output
- A tracing-coverage count based on the submitted pointer paths.
- Privacy
- Pointer coordinates remain in browser memory for the current activity only.
- Limitation
- The output is affected by attention and motor control and cannot diagnose a child’s colour vision.
